Master’s in International Master of International Communication at Communication University of China (CUC)

About the Program

Academic educational Programs sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China are dedicated to cultivating outstanding talents from the developing worlds in the field of politics, economics and trade, diplomacy, science, education, culture, public administration, etc. Those programs provide intellectual support for the economical and social development of their recipient countries. Programs are in forms of a 1-year Master’s Degree program, a 2-year Master’s Degree program, and a 3-year Doctoral Degree program.
Based on advantageous recourses in academic fields of media and communication, the Communication University of China (CUC) has been offering International Master of International Communication Program (IMIC) since 2011. This one-year program is designed for students from developing countries with diverse backgrounds. It closely integrates theoretical courses with practical fieldwork. Students could gain from this program effective skills for international communication practice and capability for a critical analysis on public policies related to international communication. 

Applicants

Applicants should be governmental officials at the middle or senior level, professionals in the media and communication industry, or researchers or administrators of academic institutions at the middle or senior career level.

Program Funding

IMIC is financed by Foreign Aid funding of the Ministry of Commerce, P.R. China. Funding includes tuition fees, accommodation fees, living subsidy, one-time relocation subsidy, the fee for teaching materials, the fee for field trips, the fee for medical insurance, etc. Relocation subsidy of 3000 CNY will be given to students upon registration. The living subsidy will be given to students at the monthly rate of 3000 CNY at the beginning of each month. Other funding will be managed by the Ministry of Commerce and CUC without directly issued to students. Students are provided with a free round trip flight to Beijing. Transportation between airport and campus in connection with this round trip flight will be arranged by CUC.

About ICS

Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) is a graduate-level teaching and research institution affiliated to the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, CUC. It consists of 36 staff members including 10 professors and 12 associate professors. It has about 200 Master’s Degree candidates and about 100 Doctoral Degree candidates. ICS is dedicated to the research and practice of intercultural communication between China and the rest of the world. Currently, ICS has about 50 international students. 

Teaching Method
The medium language of IMIC is English. Instruction takes forms of lecture, seminar, class presentation, case discussion, supervisor tutorial, etc. Discussion and international conferences are arranged to broaden students’ perspectives.
Timeline
Students are expected to complete IMIC within one academic year. The academic year starts around the beginning of September and ends at the beginning of July of the following year. The academic year consists of the Fall Semester, Winter Break, and Spring Semester. Due to a compact schedule, students must register on the date as stated by Admission Notice.
Thesis
a. About Topic
The thesis is expected to closely relate to international communication and to address practical issues of the developing world.
b. About Defense
At the beginning of the Fall Semester, ICS will make arrangements for students to choose their supervisors for the thesis. By the end of Fall Semester, students should finish their thesis proposal. In the beginning of June during the Spring Semester, students will defend their thesis.   
Diploma
Students must fulfill credit requirements of 32, including 3 Core Courses for 15 credits, Options Courses no less than 12 credits, and Practice for 5 credits.
Students are required to fulfill course requirements, finish thesis writing, and defense by the end of one academic year. With the approval of the University Degree Committee, the Degree of Master of Arts will be awarded to students.

The events hosted by the school, such as “Forum of Asian media”, “Forum of World Women University Presidents”, “Chinese Communication Forum”, as well as “China (Beijing) International Student Animation Festival” have already become very important platforms for the communication between international academies and industries. International academic exchanges are becoming increasingly frequent. The number of overseas faculty and experts who came for interaction as well as our teachers and students who go aboard to learn is annually increasing. In addition, our overseas education is enjoying a stable development; the proportion of foreign students is also rising.

Up to now, a large amount of alumni are in key positions, both administratively and technically, of different media industries, including the former and present chief engineers in the three main Radio and TV stations of China, several directors of central and local administration of radio film and television. Communication University of China (CUC) offers tuition scholarships that are based on the merits of international students.

💸 Living Expenses in Beijing

Expense Average costs
Accommodation On average, a single room student dormitory accommodation will cost about RMB 1500 per month, or about RMB 18,000 per year, including utilities.
Food A meal at the university canteen/restaurant or in a fast-food restaurant outside would cost about RMB 7 to RMB 30. The average monthly bill for students that will study in Beijing, China can be between the range of RMB 1800 to RMB 4000.
Transportation A one-way local transport ticket in Beijing costs about RMB 4. The taxi start rate costs about RMB 13, plus the additional taxi rate per kilometer of about RMB 2.30. A monthly transport pass for university students in Beijing would cost around RMB 200.
Extra costs: Some extra costs for university students who will study in Beijing, China are books and study materials around RMB 210 to RMB 350 per month (increased costs for those studying Sciences, Medicine, or Art), and medical insurance of about RMB 400 per six months.

Entry Requirements

You are not eligible to apply to this program because:

The minimum age is 18 and the maximum age is 40.

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL 95 and above is an advantage.

Minimum education level: Bachelor's.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to China Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
